The Jack Poole Photo Gallery

All of these photos were taken in 1968.Please take note of Mr Poole's posture either sitting or standing, it is obvious that he is a beginner. Chiba Shihan remembers Mr Poole as a beinner 1968. Yet, If we are to believe the claims in Mr Poole's biography, we are looking at a man who claims to have trained with Tadashi Abbe sensei in 1952, 16 years before 1968, a claim ridiculed by Pierre Chassang Sensei. Mr Poole claims to be 3rd dan Judo, a claim ridiculed by Sensei Robin Otani. Mr Poole also claims to have represented the British Judo Council in International competition 4 years before it was ever formed, once again ridiculed by Otani Sensei. Mr Poole claims to have studied Kendo with Tomio Otani Sensei 3 years before Tomio started Kendo, Tomio was still a school boy. Once again ridiculed by Otani Sensei. Mr Poole also claims to have received his first dan in Shotokan Karate in 1954, 11 years before Shotokan Karate was introduced to Britain.

I am not sure if I should be proud that a man who was a beginner with me in 1968 is now 8th dan :-)
